Ames Hockey
Interested in AMHA? Here is all the information you need to get started.
Ages
What aged players are appropriate for this program?
We have several different age groups, from 6u to High School, that are dependent on your player's birthday. When you sign up, your player will automatically be placed in the correct age-group team.
When
What time of the year does this program run?
The hockey season begins with tryouts in late August and runs until early March.
Where
Where are practices and games typically held?
Practices are held at Ames Ice Arena. Games and tournaments are held in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, etc. Once games are scheduled, families will be notified ASAP to ensure enough notice.
Practices
When are practices and how often are they?
Teams practice 2-3 times per week. All practices are held in the evenings. Times are dependent on age level.
Tryouts
What age levels have tryouts?
Squirts (10U), Peewee (12u) and Bantams (14u) will all have tryouts in August. Mites (8u) do not have tryouts.
Team Placements
How will I know what team my child is placed on?
After tryouts, you will receive an offer email. This email will indicate which team was selected for your player. You have to option to 'accept' or 'decline' this offer. When you 'accept' you will be prompted to register for the season. A 'decline" indicates you are not interested in playing for AMHA.
Games
How many games will they play? What days of the week?
AMHA follows the recommendation of USA Hockey. The number of games will vary based on age level. All friendly games are played on Saturday and Sundays. Tournament games are played on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Jerseys
Are jerseys and game socks provided or are they purchased separately?
Club jerseys and socks are required and may be purchased during registration.
Costs
What is the cost of registration for each level?
The 2024-2025 level costs are:
Learn to Play: $100 per session
House: $400
Mites: $900
Squirts: $1,300
Peewee: $1,500
Peewee AA: $2,000
Bantams: $2,000
Bantams AA: $2,500
High School: $3,000
Extra Costs
What costs beyond registration fees should be expected?
Tournament fees are not included in the registration fee. Teams will have the option to fundraise to cover the cost of tournament fees. If a team has tournament fees that are not covered by fundraising, players will be expected to split the balance at the end of the season.
Additionally, since all levels will travel for games, you can expect travel expenses including (but not limited to) gas, food, and hotel.
Payment Options
Do you offer a payment plan?
Yes! We know that this amount can be a lot for a family to put down up front; especially if you have multiple athletes. We do require a $500 deposit for each player. The remaining balance will be paid over the course of four increments starting in November. To cover the extra processing fee that will occur, your total will have an additional $25 to cover this processing fee.
