Thank you for your interest in helping coach our athletes in the Ames Minor Hockey Association. Whether you have hockey playing experience or not, we are confident that we can find a way for you to help the program. This page will walk you through the process to register and apply for a coaching position. Once registered and applied, Coaching assignments are determined through AMHA Board votes, based on recommendations provided by the Player & Coach Development Coordinator & Committee.  

Note: volunteer-related expenses paid through the registration process may qualify for reimbursement through AMHA by following the steps below.

Step 1: Register as a Volunteer/Coach through USA Hockey. This will give you the USA Hockey Confirmation # required for the AMHA application.

Step 2: Complete the Consent to Screen form for the Background Check.

Step 3: Register and complete the appropriate USA Hockey Coaching Clinic to obtain your Coaching Education Program (CEP) # for the Application. 

NOTE: You may not have the CEP course completed by the time you apply, but the course must be completed by 12/31 of each year.

Step 4: Complete the AMHA Coaching Application - link at the bottom of this page. Should the Player & Coach Development Coordinator have additional questions, they will reach out to you.

Step 5: Complete SafeSport training as guided prior to the start of on-ice coaching.

Step 6: Complete the appropriate USA Hockey Age-Specific Module for the ages you will be coaching prior to the start of on-ice coaching.

All coaches must have completed SafeSport, Consent to Screen, and the age-specific modules for the age group coaching before starting the season.

The required coaching clinic must be completed by December 31 of the current playing season to continue coaching on January 1.

Expense Reimbursement: After completing the above and being selected as a volunteer for AMHA, expenses can be submitted to the AMHA Treasurers with all supporting documents to process reimbursement.
